How To Make It in Direct Sales

Have you had success in your direct sales business?  Did you have a great idea, try it out and found out that, “WOW!!! It Worked!”

Nicole R Royal Make your business a family affair. Many of us do our businesses so we can spend more time with our families, but alienate them from the business. Find safe, age appropriate tasks for your kids to help with. Sometimes our kids are our best cheerleaders and helpers. Plus they are cute marketing reps. 🙂 Spouses can be a real asset, too especially if it was not originally a mutual venture. Just remember to not let reasons you started the business to be the reasons you don’t work the business. Find a way to combine them.

Julie Clukey I send out thank you cards to everyone! Those who have held a party for me, placed an order, or even asked about joining my team! It shows a personal touch and people seem to enjoy it cause they keep coming back!!

Molly Betts When at a party, I try to engage all of the people there – I don’t make a sales pitch for a good 20 minutes or so. It helps relax the atmosphere and a lot of times, it pays off. When you take the time to get to know people, they feel that you are genuine and care and most often will return that feeling by purchasing or exploring the business opportunity. Take the time to listen – I mean really listen – and it will pay back 10 fold. 🙂

Molly Betts Another thing I’m recently doing since it is now in launch is sending out Sincerely Scent thank you cards to everyone that has ordered, hosted, etc. – it’s a great way to say thanks! Kind of like Julie above said. 🙂

Liza M. Meier Hunt When do a wrapping session I make sure that any and all products that can be sampled are available. I also keep a scrapbook of prior parties and results from clients I personally have wrapped for new clients to see and ask questions. I feel the personal touch of knowing each person makes it show that I pay attention to whom I market to and make sure I follow up at least once a month to ensure they are on the right track.

Do NOT mistake Self Help books training’s and seminars for Business Growth

Do NOT mistake Self Help books, training’s and seminars for Business Growth.  Many reps are looking for immediate gratification and a sense of accomplishment and will interpret Self Help as something that it is NOT.  Self Help literally means you are helping yourself.  When you attend training’s, conventions, seminars and webinars you are improving YOU and helping YOU grow.

There’s no doubt that this is good for YOU, but YOU Growing is not the same thing as YOU growing your business.  

The PROOF:  The proof is in the results.  Results are a measure of how much, many, far, long.  As a noun  Results means, ‘a consequence, effect or outcome of something’.  As a verb it means, ‘to occur or follow as a consequence.  So, as a result of your Personal Growth Training, you will grow as a person.  As a results of business actions you have taken your business will ‘take action’ = Grow!

The Mistake:  If you are measuring your Business success in the number of trainings, seminars, webinars and books you have attended or read your using the wrong equation.  As a result of all your training you may have become a great trainer, but your business may lack the RESULTS you are striving for.  Unfortunately, Self Help while it ‘feels’ good, is not the same thing as taking action.  Taking action often does NOT ‘feel’ good.  Well, not until later anyway.

The Resolution:  YOU Growing is not the same thing as growing your business.  But, YOU helping other Grow will Grow Your Business!  After a good book, a training, a team call, a seminar put in to practice what you have learned.  Do NOT misinterpret this to mean do grow, don’t improve yourself.  Self growth is good, but t grow your business what you learn HAS to be used.  Growing your business is about taking action.  Do not count any potential growth expectations.

The Challenge:

Week 1: Log the time you spend in one week on self help.  Be very honest about this time.  Log anytime you spend reading, on the phone with a mentor, communicating with colleges on calls, at lunch, in person or on fb or where ever and also any time spent at a training or seminar.  Take good notes.  Identify at least 5 things that these training’s have taught you.  Log any financial growth in your business.

Week 2:  Cancel ALL self help, just for one week!  Do not allow yourself to ‘connect’ with mentors.  Do not attend any trainings on or off line.  Actively use at least 5 of the things that learned during week 1 in exactly the same amount of time used during week 1 for training.  Log any financial growth in your business.  Do not count any potential growth expectations.

The Definition: Business Grow can be defined as the process of improving some measure of an enterprise’s success.  This improvement can be achieved by either boosting the top line or revenue with increased sales or income. or by increasing the bottom-line by minimizing costs.

The Training:  Take the Challenge!  We promise both you and your business will grow!

What to Put on YOUR Direct Sales Business Cards

What’s on Your Business Card? 
Having a business card is a BIG ‘must do’. Exchanging cards is a common way to get to know new people in almost any situation. 
What’s on the back of your card? 
BIG ‘no no’ leaving it blank and if you get someone else’s that is blank, use it for notes about the person that you can use when you follow up with them later.

  Tiffany Hathorn Mine says “I Love Referrals” and briefly outlines my referral policy (someone you refer buys or books, you get 15% off your next order if they mention your name. That way even if they don’t want to order now or book a party, there is a possible reward for sharing my business card with others. I also have a loyal customer card. They get a stamp in a box for every $50 they spend and get a particular reward for filling it up halfway or all the way. Halfway is 15% off an order. All the way is the hostess discount for a full year as long as they can present the card.
  Annette Brownworth When someone, anyone, even if it is not a potential client, asks for my number or email, I hand them a card, it’s so much more convenient and you never know you might spark there interest or they might share your info with someone they know who might need your services! 🙂 I write their appointment on the back or a special just for them or I use it incase they refer me, I put their name, and what they will get if someone returns the car to me, it shows me that they have shared my biz with others 🙂
  PartyGal Anne Rehrig All of mine include a $10 gift certificate on the back. I’m not handing out cards, I’m handing out the equivalent of a $10 bill! 🙂

Having a testimonial is HUGE in Direct Sales, but typically you don’t have more than a few seconds to make an impression. We asked a few seasoned reps to give us their best “Pick Up Line” or their 10 Second Story.  And we asked them to make sure it would fit on the back of a business card.  Here are just a few examples:
